The big Question: Is Homework Necessary?

This is one of those debates where each side has good reasoning and it’s hard to choose how you feel about it. So I’m writing this article to give you both sides of this debate so you can decide how you really feel about homework.

The Negative side:

“Piling on the homework doesn't help kids do better in school. In fact, it can lower their test scores.”- Natalie Wolchover

Richard Walker, who is an educational phycologist at a University in Sydney, did a study that shows that all the school that spends a lot of time on homework get lower scores than the schools that don’t. Most studies in the past have shown the same result, but Homework is only really a problem when it becomes too much. So when students are given more than one to two hours a week their marks will start to go down. So, in conclusion, this means homework brings down your grades and is pretty stressful if you are given too much.

"There is little benefit for most students until senior high school (grades 10-12)," Richard Walker told Life's Little Mysteries.

The Positive side:

There isn’t much on the positive side of homework but there are a few things like some people say, I agree, that homework teaches children to be responsible. This makes sense because when you get homework it is your responsibility and no-one else’s meaning you should make sure you get it done because no-one else is going to do it.

Another thing is the teacher being able to help their students more because they can see if you are struggling or if you need help with your homework. Then they can help you.

In conclusion, I find there are definitely more cons than pros with this particular topic. So now it’s up to you to decide which side you’re on.
