Bullies

By Matilda (Grade 5)

Bullies, types of bullies & the effect that they have on other people.

No one likes being bullied. Not me, not you, not anyone. Some people are unfortunate enough to be bullied and have to deal with terrible consequences.

There are 3 main forms of bullying: cyberbullying, verbal bullying and physical bullying. Did you know that in the USA 280,000 children in secondary school are physically attacked each month? It’s very sad indeed.

What I should start with is what bullying is. Bullying is unwanted and aggressive behavior that is repeated.

The three types of bullying (cyber, verbal & physical) have these treatments:

CYBER:

Rude messages on the internet

Sexual messages on the internet

Strangers asking to meet up with people on the internet

VERBAL:

Saying or writing mean things

Name-calling

Teasing

Spreading rumors

Inappropriate sexual comments

Taunting

Threatening to cause harm

PHYSICAL:

Pushing or shoving

Hitting

Kicking

Spitting

Breaking people’s property

Making mean or rude hand gestures

The effects of bullying affect everyone: the victim, the bully and the witnesses. It is a proven fact that kids who are bullied are more likely to commit suicide, especially LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) kids.

If you are being bullied at the moment, whether it’s in the office or at school the best thing to do is tell someone, otherwise you will probably keep having the same problem.

And finally, some words of truth: “There are 6,852,472,823 people in this world. Why are you letting on bring you down?”
